What is Fantasy? What is Reality? Who really knows? This capstone explores “fantastical” thoughts or situations versus “real” thoughts or situations. Due to my love of music, I concluded that creating my own songs would be a good outlet for this concept. A 10 song album was born from this premise.

In my first album (Fantasy vs Reality), I start off by exploring some of the fantastical dreams and thoughts that I have and how somethings may not appear as they really are. I then begin to come back down to reality and talk about real conflicts within my life. The album caps off with positive, uplifting vibes.

To support the album, I created many different types of deliverables. From things like posters, videos, social media content, and more, “Fantasy vs Reality” is jammed packed with appealing aesthetics that emphasizes the blurred lines between “what is real” and “what is fake”.

01 PROJECT BRIEF

Students are required to create a final capstone designed experience that explores a self-authored research design topic. The final solution will be determined by the outcomes set forth in the project proposal and design statement. This designed exhibit will celebrate the student’s understanding of how best to solve complex design challenges through research, investigation, and execution.

Students will develop a new body of work based on self-generated research that emphasizes concepts of design authorship, its relationship to visual narrative, and the building of designed artifacts for specific audiences. The self-authored work created during the course will illustrate each student’s individual aptitude and interests. Working with the various methodologies, and various design tools cultivated over the span of their academic careers will engage students in professional design practice. The ability to produce written documentation or statements about their work will assist them in assessing their outcomes.

02 RESEARCH

In Design Studio 1, we had two major projects. In the first project, we were tasked to create a visual representation of my research for my capstone project. I decided to show the transformation of music devices and visual trends since the 1950’s.

In our second project, I decided to explore how different
album covers could look with the same basic information.

While brainstorming for my final capstone, I looked all around for different types of inspiration. I looked in stores at different types of CD and vinyl covers. I examined many different album branding campaigns on social media. Receiving a wide-range of possibilites and directions for this project was very important for me.
